EXECUSPORTS’ sponsored athlete, ace paddler Christie Mackenzie, has just returned from Brandenburg, Germany, where she competed for South Africa in the 2016 World Championships.
The fiesty 17-year-old literally threw herself in deep waters, facing the toughest rivals in the world, but she came back stronger and better for the experience.
Christie tells: “I finished 14th in my K1 which was a bit disappointing because I expected a Top 10 finish, but the competion was really tough and I was really happy with making the front bunch for the first lap.
“I truly learnt a lot racing against the best paddling girls in the world, it was an eye-opening experience and I am so excited to give it another shot next year. Thanks to Execusports for supporting me!”
She added: “”My K2 race went better than expected. My partner Sabina Lawrie and I came 7th, we started on the far side so our start was really tough. We missed the front bunch but played a nice game of catch-up and we both really enjoyed it.”
